WATVA E-Newsletter

This week in the WATVA E-Newsletter Update:

ATV Definition Change - 14" Rims Update

Good news folks regarding the ATV definition bill moving forward.

The Senate bill has now been scheduled for the full senate vote on floor for 9/22/09.

The Assembly companion bill was heard and testimony given this Wednesday. We did hear from the vice chair that he did not foresee any issue with the bill, their committee has to schedule this bill for what is called an "executive session" at which time the committee officially votes on the bill. An affirmative majority vote in the committee will send this bill to the full Assembly for a vote (keep in mind the Senate committee executive session vote was 7 for with 0 against, that's a GREAT indication).

Assuming both bills pass their respective floor votes (Senate & Assembly), the Governor then has a chance to review each bill (when two identical bills are running like this they usually drop one at the end) sign it, veto it or he may choose to take no action. If he takes no action, the bill still becomes law but a certain time period has to elapse (I believe it is 30 days?).

Personally I have not yet spoken with their office on this bill but I doubt he will veto it, especially with the unanimous vote numbers and strong support shown in each house.

It gets very dangerous projecting a date the bill would pass or might pass because in politics there are so many variables, but if I was guessing best case scenario I would say mid-October....but a million things could change that, it's only a moving projection and best guess!

Trail Patrol Reports: Recent Report Submitted

Wisconsin ATV Association is passing along in each E-Newsletter reports submitted by our Ambassadors who are out volunteering their time almost every weekend to enhance our image and protect our riders and trails.

This weeks report comes from two ambassadors who patrolled the Cheese Country Trail. That day they put on 61 miles and spent 6 hours on the trails. Here is what they had to say for that patrol:

"We must be making some impressions on the people with kids in side by sides because all weekend we maybe saw 2 kids without helmets. We were talking to some people from Fond du lac, they were a little upset on Sunday about the way most of the sports models were speeding and being rude by passing in dangerous areas. They had younger kids on smaller ATVs, and being passed in the dusty conditions. We tried to explain that we do our best at talking to them and also have LE on the trails. We think we had a very safe weekend with no big problems."

WATVA and the Ride Smart program thank all of our volunteers for their time and effort on the trails!
