Senator Holperin's office passed the word that the bill is now awaiting the Governer's signature.
We are anticipating (99.99%) that he will sign the bill without any issues. Currently the bill is scheduled to be signed December 10th however we are told it could happen a lot sooner.
As soon as the bill is signed, the DNR then must post the news to the public so there will be a short delay from the time of signing to allowing the registration of the machines that currently are getting rejected.
Please share this information with your Side x Side (UTV) friends and family, the new link on the WATVA web site was set up specifically to help answer some of the questions people have now that the first UTV pilot program has expired. It’s a link off the main www.watva.org web site (see UTV Program) or the direct link is http://www.wiutv.org
In short:
The first 2 year pilot program that was conducted in 5 counties has expired as of 9/30/09 – there is no legal UTV riding as of now
We have submitted a proposal to Senator Holperin which would expand and extend the expired pilot test starting in 2010 (see the upper right hand section on the web site)
Once we are successful in getting the expanded / extended written into law, our efforts will then shift toward a permanent UTV program that would be effective 7/1/2012
We need the UTV owners to be WATVA members in order to communicate effectively. Please stress to your friends they need to join, it can be done quickly and easily right on line.
We are going to phase out the old www.ridesmartwi.org and have created a new web site www.witrailpatrol.org (next month I will merge the two web addresses so they will both go to the new site). The new TPA site has some great new features.
* You will be able to track your hours and miles from submitted reports. This gives you a good idea of what you have submitted to us over the year. This information is private so no other users can see your stats. We will also have on your profile your DNR number, your TPA number and the date of your certification class.
* We have included a message board just for TPA's. That means you can log into the forums with your new username and password on the new site. We really want to keep the TPA communications flowing and this is a great way to keep in touch. Only registered TPA's will be able to access the forums.
* New report form also includes an area for uploading photos if needed. This allows you to take any photos of anything you are going to report to us and send them along. Like the old report form, any report that has important information is always passed on to state / local levels of management or law enforcement.
* Register online for upcoming refresher classes.
The registration process is going to be different for getting on the new site. If you visit www.witrailpatrol.org there is a login area however no register link. To register, you need to click on "Request Access" and fill the form out. We will manually add you after verifying who you are. This also allows us to update your miles and hours when you register. Your current username and password WILL NOT WORK on the new web site.

New NOHVIS / WATVA "ATV Themed" Capital One Credit Cards
If you are looking for a new credit card, check out the new Capital One Credit Card Program that donates a small percentage of each transaction back to NOHVIS /WATVA!
New Capital One “ATV personalized” credit card - Many of you see the mention of the NOHVIS Group in the WATVA publications. Basically the NOHVIS Group is the support organization with WATVA, most commonly known for the role it plays in administering the Ride Smart Trail Patrol Ambassador program. For those folks who want to showcase the ATV sport when using your credit card for any purchase that takes cards, we think you’ll be proud to show off one of these three choices.
One card depicts a Wisconsin trail ride, another shows an ATV rider at a special event. The third card proudly showcases the Trail Patrol Ambassador in action!
Feel free to visit the application web site and share with your friends and family. We appreciate your support and participation.
Wisconsin ATV Association is passing along in each E-Newsletter reports submitted by our Ambassadors who are out volunteering their time almost every weekend to enhance our image and protect our riders and trails.
This weeks report comes from two ambassadors who patrolled the Cheese Country trails. That day they put on 56 miles and spent 8 hours on the trails. Here is what they had to say for that patrol:
"We noticed a family taking a rest along side the trail, and their nephew was off trail riding. We stopped to watch him and when he was done we motioned him over to us. We then mentioned to the fact that he was in violation of off trail riding and that there could be a large fine if caught. My partner asked him if he had his safety cert on him? He knew nothing of it, so we told him how to get one. This was all done in the presence of his aunt and uncle and their younger kids. He was 12 yrs old and they were from Illinois. It was a very beautiful weekend for trail riding, we saw alot of deer, geese and families out enjoying outdoors Wisconsin at its finest!"
WATVA and the Ride Smart program thank all of our volunteers for their time and effort on the trails!
