ATV Trail Grooming and Trail Maintenance Equipment Demonstration by NORTEC Mfg.

Dear WATVA Members:

Last week the e-newsletter explained and promoted the upcoming Saturday, April 25th Trail Equipment Demonstration being held in Antigo at the Nortec facilities. Note that Nortec has now added a second day (Friday the 24th) for those folks that prefer a weekday versus a weekend venue. Also see the additional information about the types of equipment that will be on display as well as lodging information.

There have been several requests from clubs, government agencies and individuals for hands-on "In The Dirt" demonstrations. Nortec and The Rider Network is addressing these requests with our first annual trail grooming demonstration.

On site demonstrations are very difficult to perform because of the travel time and equipment set-up time. Some of the problems we encounter in hauling equipment to trail site are: having proper equipment (such as large fork lifts) to unload our equipment, having a power unit to operate the trail grooming equipment and the time needed to set up for our demonstration.

Nortec is opening our Research and Development Test Facility to the public for a demonstration. Our test track consists of over 15 miles of trails. We have it all - hills, woods, flat land, sand, dirt, rocks, gravel, curves, corners and moguls, just to name a few conditions. This will be a hands-on demonstration. Here's your chance to ride and drive small, medium and large units.

Not only will there be Nortec equipment, there will also be several other manufacturers on site.

We will be introducing the newest line of the Nortec "Trail Force" processing equipment available for 2010, Snow Force for the snowmobile trail grooming industry, Snow Force Nordic Groomer for cross country snow trails, Dirt Force ATV-Trail Groomer/Processor, Road Force targeted for road reclamation, Dirt Force Fitness Travel for biking and hiking and Dike Force for the cranberry dike road maintenance equipment.

Expanding upon our Snow Force industry-leading trail processing equipment, we will be introducing our new "State of the Art" SNOW DRAG/GROOMER. This will be the first fully engineered-manufactured snowmobile drag/groomer. This new NV Series Drag/Groomer from Nortec will feature the newest concepts and designs which include new designs for the variable angle cutter blade, compression pan "snow compressor", compressor bar, damage control system, automotive design frame and lift and go wheel linkage.

This Product Showcase will not only be exciting but informative, educational and will be the hands-on experience show to attend!

Trail Patrol Ambassador Training - April 25th and May 30th

April 25th: Corning Town Hall - N1569 State Highway 64, Corning WI (6 miles west of Merrill on Hwy 64)

May 30th: Crooked Lake Community Center, 15441 Cty Rd W, Crooked Lake, WI - Oconto County

Time: The DNR ATV Safety Instructor Training will start at 9:00 A.M.
Please arrive 15 minutes early to allow time for registration. Instructor training will run until 11:30 AM, followed by a lunch on site. At 12:30 PM we will begin the Trail Patrol Ambassador training. We will be finished around 4:30 / 5:00 PM. You do not need to bring your ATV; this is a classroom training session.

Requirements: “Ride Smart Trail Patrol Ambassadors” are also Certified Wisconsin DNR ATV Safety Instructors. At this training we will offer both sessions. If you are already a DNR ATV Safety instructor, you only need to take the afternoon class. For any applicant interested in being only an instructor, the morning class is available but you are encouraged to work with other ATV instructors in your community.

Something new – Each applicant will need to download preliminary information, completing a self study quiz before coming to the training session. This change in procedure is to help our applicants better understand the instructor materials before the training course. It is an open book exam with no time limit but it is a prerequisite. Down load the following ATV exam and documents then use the manual to complete the quiz. Bring all this paperwork to class along with any questions you might have.

Trail Patrol Reports: Recent Report Submitted

Wisconsin ATV Association is passing along in each E-Newsletter reports submitted by our Ambassadors who are out volunteering their time almost every weekend to enhance our image and protect our riders and trails.

This weeks report comes from two ambassadors who patrolled near Hayward. That day they put on 60 miles and spent 5 hours on the trails. Here is what they had to say for that patrol:

"We had a nice ride and aided two different groups with directions."

WATVA and the Ride Smart program thank all of our volunteers for their time and effort on the trails!
